The Proposal

In November 2023 we had planned a trip back to Napa with some friends. Rachel had no clue that Ricky was planning on proposing during the trip. On Saturday morning we went to our favorite winery: Mumm Napa. This was one of the first wineries we went to when we lived in California, and we fell in love with the wine and the scenery. We had a tour and then enjoyed a tasting on the patio, it was a beautiful day. As we were walking out to go to the next spot we stopped to take some photos. While posing for photos, Ricky got down on one knee in front of our friends and the entire winery. Rachel said yes and the crowd of onlookers at the winery who had witnessed the proposal started cheering. We continued on the rest of the weekend by going to more of our favorite wineries and enjoying the weekend with our friends.

Our Story Places

Chicago

Us after our first date at Lou Malnati's in downtown Chicago. The city where we met and fell in love! Rachel had classes with Ricky’s roommate, John, and would often end up studying with John in their room while Ricky was usually playing video games. After talking all summer, we had our first date when we returned for Sophomore year. We went to Lou Malnotis, a popular deep dish spot downtown and walked through Millenium Park and we’ve been together ever since!

Washington D.C.

Us visiting the White House while we lived in DC. Our first time living together. We moved to the city straight after school for Ricky’s first real job, and we loved so much about it! Great food, great people, the work was fun. We started dreaming of buying a home together because of these cute colorfully-painted row homes down the street from our apartment.

Redwood City

Us visiting the White House while we lived in DC. Our first cross-country move. We moved for Ricky’s new job, but fell in love with the weather and the wine. We made tons of new friends, really developed as foodies, and traveled up and down the West Coast.

New York City

How we feel about Times Square Our first move to NYC. Even though we loved California it was really far away from family and many of our longtime friends so after a few years we made the decision to move back to the East Coast. We lived in Manhattan, near Union Square, right in the middle of the city. We enjoyed going to restaurants, Broadway shows and trips up to Hudson Valley. About a year after we moved, COVID struck. We lived in the city through the worst of the pandemic shutdowns, and it was really like two different cities.

Denver

Pumpkin picking and other Fall activities with Dan and Jenn. Our first home! We weren’t sure we could make NYC work long term and so we decided to make a huge shift. We moved back to Ricky’s hometown and bought a house in Denver. We also added the newest member of our family: Roquefort “Rocky” Malone Vetter.

New York City (Round 2)

Biking down a street is so much easier when they close it to cars! Ricky was offered his dream job and it was a tough decision, but we left Denver just a little over a year after getting there. We came back to NYC, but in a little quieter neighborhood on the Upper West Side. Rocky now gets his walks in Central Park and is the true socialite of the family.
